What Is a Good CPS Score? - My Click Speed
Share

A good CPS (clicks per second) score depends entirely on how you are clicking and what you plan to use the speed for. 7 CPS is excellent for normal single-finger clicking. 12 CPS is good for a trained jitter clicker. 20 CPS is competitive for butterfly clicking. 50 CPS is drag clicking territory. These are different activities, not different skill levels on the same scale.

Test your current CPS before reading the benchmarks below. Your number will make more sense in context.

CPS Benchmarks: Where Do You Fall?

CPS ScoreRatingHow Most People Achieve It
1 to 3 CPSBelow averageCasual, non-gaming users
4 to 6 CPSAverageRegular computer users, most non-gamers
6 to 8 CPSAbove averageGamers who click regularly
8 to 10 CPSGoodTrained gamers, good single-finger technique
10 to 14 CPSVery goodJitter clicking or well-trained finger speed
14 to 25 CPSExcellentButterfly clicking
25 to 100+ CPSSpecializedDrag clicking only

Average CPS by Clicking Method

The global average CPS score reported from click speed tests tends to land between 6 and 7 CPS for users clicking naturally for 5 seconds. This reflects a mix of people who have never focused on clicking speed and players who have practiced.

Clicking MethodAverage CPS Achievable
Single-finger, no training4 to 7 CPS
Single-finger, trained (6+ months)7 to 10 CPS
Jitter clicking, 1 month practice10 to 14 CPS
Butterfly clicking, 1 month practice15 to 22 CPS
Drag clicking, technique developed30 to 100+ CPS

What CPS Scores Famous Minecraft Players Use

Player CPS data from streaming and PvP analysis:

Player / TypeTypical CPSTechnique
Casual Minecraft player4 to 7 CPSSingle-finger
Competitive Minecraft PvP (1.8)8 to 14 CPSJitter or butterfly
Technoblade (documented matches)8 to 12 CPSConsistent single-finger and jitter
Dream (PvP sequences)10 to 14 CPSJitter clicking
Most Bedwars pros8 to 12 CPSMixed technique

What CPS Is Useful for Minecraft PvP

  • Java Edition 1.8 PvP (no attack cooldown): CPS from 8 to 14 is the effective range. Above 14 CPS, most 1.8 servers either cap hit registration or flag anti-cheat. More clicks in this range produce more hits.
  • Java Edition 1.9 and later: The attack cooldown means one fully charged hit every 0.625 seconds. 6 CPS is enough to land a full-damage hit every swing. Clicking at 14 CPS does not increase damage per second in this version.
  • Bedrock Edition: Similar to 1.9 Java. CPS above 6 to 8 rarely produces a meaningful advantage in most combat scenarios.
  • Bridge building in Minecraft: Higher CPS matters for placing blocks while moving backward. Butterfly clicking (15 to 20 CPS) on right-click is used by most speedbridgers.

How to Improve Your CPS Score

If you are below the benchmark you want to reach, the path forward depends on where you currently are:

  • Under 6 CPS: Focus on grip (switch to claw grip) and practice regular clicking for 2 weeks before learning any technique.
  • 6 to 10 CPS: Consider butterfly clicking for a bigger jump without much RSI risk.
  • 10 to 14 CPS target: Jitter clicking is the primary path. Guide at How to Jitter Click.
  • 14 to 25 CPS target: Butterfly clicking is the right technique. Guide at How to Butterfly Click.

Track your progress over time using the CPS Test. The 5-second and 10-second tests both show your average for that session.
