Cookie Clicker is deceptively deep. The core loop of clicking a cookie and buying buildings gives way to a layered progression system with golden cookie combos, the Grandmapocalypse, wrinklers, prestige upgrades, and a late-game that rewards knowing the exact order of purchases.

This guide covers the main mechanics you need to actually make progress, from early game through prestige, plus how to set up an auto clicker for active and AFK sessions. Note: this guide covers legitimate strategy only. Cheats and save editors technically work, but they remove the progression that makes the game interesting.

How to Get Infinite Cookies (Console Method)

The fastest way to get infinite cookies in Cookie Clicker is through the browser developer console. This works on any desktop browser and on Chromebook.

Step 1: Open the Browser Console

Press F12 (or Fn+F12) to open developer tools. Click the Console tab. On a Chromebook, use Ctrl+Shift+J to open the console directly.

Step 2: Enter the Command

To add a large number of cookies:

Game.Earn(999999999999)

This adds 999 billion cookies immediately. To set your cookie count to Infinity (note: this can break some achievements):

Game.cookies = Infinity

Step 3: Press Enter

The command executes and your cookie count updates immediately.

The Bakery Name Trick (No Console Required)

Cookie Clicker has a built-in cheat unlock. Click your bakery name at the top of the screen. Rename your bakery to include the word saysopensesameanywhere in the name - for example: "Cookiesaysopensesame Bakery". After renaming, a Cheats section appears in the Options menu.

How to Get Infinite Cookies on Chromebook

On a Chromebook using Chrome browser, the console method works the same way. Press Ctrl+Shift+J to open the JavaScript console. If your school has disabled developer tools, use the bakery name trick instead.

How to Get Infinite Sugar Lumps

Sugar lumps are a separate resource used for leveling up buildings. To add sugar lumps through the console:

Game.lumps = 100

Replace 100 with your target amount.

Resetting After Using Cheats

To return to a clean game after experimenting with cheats, open the Options menu and click "Wipe save". This resets the game completely.

Early Game: First Few Minutes

The opening 5 to 10 minutes are the most click-intensive phase of Cookie Clicker. Click the cookie as fast as possible to build up your first few hundred cookies, then buy the first Cursor upgrade immediately. After that, buy the Grandma as soon as you can. These first two buildings scale well with early upgrades.

Priority order for first buildings: Cursor, Grandma, Farm, Mine, Factory. Do not overbuy buildings at the cost of delaying upgrades. The upgrades that appear when you buy a new building type are often more valuable than the next copy of that building.

Golden Cookies: The Core Progression Multiplier

Golden Cookies appear randomly on screen and disappear after a few seconds. Clicking them gives effects including Frenzy (your cookie production multiplies by 7 for 77 seconds), Click Frenzy (clicking power multiplies by 777 for a short burst), or cookie bonuses.

The most important upgrade you can buy is Lucky Day followed by Serendipity. These unlock a second golden cookie slot and increase their frequency. From mid-game onward, your goal should be to always have a Frenzy and a Click Frenzy active at the same time, then click the big cookie rapidly during that window. This combo is called a Frenzy-Click Frenzy combo and produces 5,000+ times your normal output.

Golden Cookie EffectWhat It Does
FrenzyCookie production multiplied by 7 for 77 seconds
Click FrenzyClick power multiplied by 777 for about 13 seconds
Building SpecialOne building type produces massively more for a short time
Cookie ChainMultiple golden cookies appear in rapid sequence
Elder FrenzyProduction multiplied by 666 during Grandmapocalypse

The Grandmapocalypse: Start It, Do Not Fear It

Once you have purchased several Grandma buildings and researched the relevant upgrades, you will be prompted to start the Grandmapocalypse through the Bingo Center research tree. Starting it makes the game visually more chaotic and spawns Wrath Cookies (red golden cookies) that have more negative effects, but it also: spawns Wrinklers (strange creatures that attach to the cookie and absorb production), unlocks Elder Frenzy which multiplies production by 666, and contributes to the One Mind and related upgrades.

Wrinklers look like they are reducing your production, but they are not. They absorb cookies and when you pop them (click them), they give back 110 percent of what they consumed. Let all 12 Wrinkler slots fill, then pop them all at once for a massive one-time cookie income.

Prestige: When to Ascend and What to Buy First

Ascending (prestiging) resets your buildings, cookies, and most upgrades, but gives you Heavenly Chips and lets you buy permanent upgrades that persist across runs. Common advice: ascend when you can get at least 365 Heavenly Chips from your first ascension. This takes reaching roughly 365 trillion cookies baked. A premature first ascension wastes potential.

First prestige upgrades to prioritize:

  • How to Bake Your Dragon: unlocks the dragon Krumblor, which gives passive bonuses.
  • Twin Gates of Transcendence: increases heavenly chip value.
  • Permanent Upgrade Slot I through V: lets you keep key upgrades across runs.
  • One Mind, Communal Brainsweep: unlocks Elder Frenzy in the Grandmapocalypse.

Setting Up an Auto Clicker for Cookie Clicker

Cookie Clicker is one of the games that benefits most directly from an auto clicker because higher sustained clicking on the cookie scales with actual upgrades. The Reinforced Index Finger upgrade doubles the value of each click, and Carpal Tunnel Prevention Cream doubles click power again. At high click upgrades, each auto-click is worth hundreds of cookies.

Use the auto clicker with these recommended settings, or test your raw clicking speed with the 5-second CPS test.

SettingRecommended Value
Click rate15 to 20 CPS
Position modeFixed coordinate on the big cookie
Start/stopHotkey (so you can pause to navigate the shop)
Session strategyRun continuously during Golden Cookie combos; pause to click GCs manually

Set a fixed coordinate on the cookie center so the clicker stays on target even when you move your cursor to the shop.
