DwellClick for Mac, Hands-Free Clicking
A hands-free accessibility tool that clicks automatically when your cursor stays still. Built for RSI relief and users who find pressing a button difficult. Now free with a license key, plus the built-in macOS Dwell alternative.
Overview
DwellClick is different from every other tool in this guide. Rather than clicking at set intervals, it triggers a click automatically when your cursor stays still for a set duration. You point, and it clicks. This is particularly valuable for users with limited hand mobility or repetitive strain injuries, where pressing a button is the problem itself. It works with both mouse and trackpad and supports double click, drag, and Control-click through a pop-up panel.
An important note: DwellClick has been officially retired by its developer Pilotmoon. It is no longer sold or available on the Mac App Store. The developer has made a free license key available for anyone who wants the last released version. macOS also now has a built-in Dwell feature, covered below, which is the actively maintained alternative.

The Built-in macOS Dwell Alternative
Since DwellClick is no longer maintained, macOS includes its own dwell clicking feature that is worth knowing about. To enable it, open System Settings, go to Accessibility, then Pointer Control, and turn on Dwell Control. It performs a click automatically when the cursor stays still for a set time, with no third-party app required. It is the actively maintained option for hands-free clicking on a modern Mac, though DwellClick offers a more refined pop-up panel for choosing click types.
Troubleshooting
Clicks not firing
Confirm Accessibility permission under System Settings, Privacy and Security, Accessibility, then quit and relaunch DwellClick.
Clicks firing too easily or too slowly
Adjust the dwell time in settings. A longer dwell time reduces accidental clicks, a shorter one speeds up interaction. Also check the Movement Distance and Jitter Distance settings.
Trackpad not triggering dwell
Make sure DwellClick is enabled and that trackpad gestures are not conflicting. It supports Magic Trackpad and multi-touch trackpads.
Stopped after a macOS update
Re-grant Accessibility permission, which macOS Sequoia may require periodically. Note the app is no longer updated, so very new macOS versions may eventually cause issues.
Want a maintained alternative
Since DwellClick is retired, consider the built-in macOS Dwell feature under System Settings, Accessibility, Pointer Control, which is actively maintained by Apple.
Takes practice to master
The dwell workflow has a learning curve. Spend a few minutes adjusting dwell time to suit your pace before judging it.
