What Is the Spin Wheel?

The spin wheel is a free online randomizer that picks one result from a list of options you enter. Type in your choices, click Spin, and the wheel selects a winner at random. Every option has an equal probability of being chosen regardless of how many are on the wheel, so the outcome is genuinely fair.

This is the digital version of a prize wheel or wheel of fortune. Rather than a physical spinning disk, the randomness comes from a JavaScript random number generator that produces a different spin speed and landing position each time, making each result unpredictable.

You can add up to 20 options. The wheel divides its segments equally across however many options you add. With four options, each has a 25% chance. With ten, each has a 10% chance.

How to Use the Spin Wheel

The wheel loads with six default options. Here is how to set it up for your own use:

  1. Remove the default options by clicking the x next to each one, or click Clear all to start fresh.
  2. Type your first option into the input field and press Enter or click Add.
  3. Add all remaining options the same way. You can include up to 20.
  4. Click the Spin button or tap the wheel itself to start.
  5. The wheel spins and gradually slows to a stop. The option at the pointer is the selected result.
  6. Spin again as many times as you like. Each spin is independent of the last.

What to Use the Spin Wheel For

The spin wheel works for any situation where you need to select one item from a list fairly and visibly. These are the most common uses:

Random name picker. The most frequent use. Add names and spin to select one without bias. Works for classroom call-ons, giveaway winners, team assignments, or any selection that needs to be seen as impartial. Use a tally counter alongside it to track how many times each name has come up across multiple spins.

Decision making. When you cannot choose between options and want an impartial result, the wheel gives you a definitive answer in a few seconds. Common uses: where to eat, what movie to watch, which game to play, which task to start first. Pair it with a countdown timer to cap how long you deliberate before committing to the spin.

Game nights. Determine turn order, assign teams, pick game modes, or randomly select forfeits and dares without arguments. Keep score between rounds using the scoreboard so everyone can see the running total.

Classroom activities. Teachers use the spin wheel to call on students without favoritism, select who presents next, form groups, or choose topics to review.

Giveaways and raffles. Add participant names and spin to select winners. The visual animation adds excitement to live announcements on streams or in person.

Chore and task assignment. Add household or team member names and spin to fairly allocate rotating tasks without negotiation. Set a timer for each task so everyone knows how long they have to complete their assigned chore.

Prize reveals. Enter prize names or reward types and spin to show each participant what they have won at an event or promotion.

Is the Result Truly Random?

Yes. Each spin generates a new random rotation speed and stopping point. No option is weighted, no previous result influences the next spin, and the wheel has no memory of past outcomes.

The important thing to understand is that equal probability does not mean equal distribution over a small number of spins. If you spin a wheel with five options ten times, there is no guarantee each option appears exactly twice. The same entry can come up two or three times in a row by pure chance, just as a coin can land heads three times in a row without being rigged.

If you want to prevent the same name from appearing twice, remove it after it wins. If you want weighted probability, add a particular option multiple times. Two copies of an option give it double the wheel space and double the chance of being selected.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many options can I add?

Up to 20. Each option receives equal wheel space, giving it an equal probability of being selected.

Does the wheel save my options?

Options clear when you close or refresh the page. Keep the tab open between spins to preserve your list for the session.

Can I add the same option twice to increase its odds?

Yes. Adding the same entry multiple times gives it proportionally more wheel space and a higher chance of being selected. This is useful for weighted draws where some options should appear more often than others.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The wheel works on touchscreen devices. Tap the Spin button or the wheel itself to start a spin. Adding and removing options works the same as on desktop.

Is this free to use?

Yes. The spin wheel is completely free. No login, no subscription, and no download is required.

Can I use this for a live giveaway on stream?

Yes. Add all participant names, share your screen, and spin the wheel live. The animation works well for visible, real-time selection on streams or in-person events.
